Doorway to Nowhere

Understanding SEO

Understanding SEO is the first step into knowing how to use it. No one really knows what or how the Google monster works and subsequently judges a website, but there are a few hints to how it is broken down. This is where the so called experts opinion are called in and is what the world is forced to listen to because Google will not share this information.

It is the breakdown on importance by the monster is as follows. Remember this is just what the so called experts think. 25% of it is related to the Trust and Authority of the host domain. 22% is the links popularity of any specific page. The anchor texts of external links are weighted in at 20%. These are the big three accounting for 67% or 2/3 thirds of how Google views to your webpage and then ranks it. How fair this is does not matter.

The rest of the breakdown is made of the remaining SEO techniques of which many are familiar with. 15% is for on page keyword use or placement. 7% is for traffic and CTR data. 6% is all about social media and its metrics. The last at 5% is registration and hosting data.

What really needs to be understood is that the above ranking will fluctuate over time. In 2002 the Trust and Authority of the host domain was at the lowest priority of Google while now it is at its highest. The only one that has maintained is steady place in priority is on page keyword usage. The next most stable item is the anchor texts of external links.

The Trust and Authority of the host domain is how trustworthy Google perceives you and your site really are. It related back to the days before the internet when a business would give their word on a deal and kept it. To help your site create this type of trust, you need to have a real physical address in which you can be contacted at to be placed visibly on the website.

Another way to earn more credibility for your site is to have a testimonial page present. This will be voluntary messages from your clients about your service or products you offer the public. The more you have, the greater its influence on Google will be.

One of the sections about this there is nothing you can do about. This is the age of your domain. The longer you are open and have a viable webpage, the better you appear to be by Google standards. Just understanding SEO is not enough. You must take a proactive stance in constantly improving your site for the betterment of your visitors. This will help you to improve your SERP’s over time.
