SEO Basics
Read and Heed.
The advice Google gives on SEO Basics is constructive and accurate, just remember they are only hinting on what will work for their search engine. This conglomerate has been on top so long, some of their advice is not as sound as it once was, nor are all of their statements 100% accurate.
There was a time when Google controlled 90% of all the traffic on the internet. This is what they are still claiming on their website. That is no longer true. Just like the monopoly Microsoft has on the software computer world, Google has seen a backlash from the American public for being so large and bullheaded. This percentage had dropped off to only 75% of the search engine market as of 4 years ago and now this year has dropped even further to only 67%.
Google is still the main player in this online realm, but they are not alone. If you follow their advice, much of it will also be beneficial to your rankings with the other search engines, but not all of it. You should be aware of this when applying any SEO technique to your site.
It is beneficial for you to place your keyword in to your title and have your URL also contain it for all search engines. The placement of the keywords is also relatively the same for all search engines. They should be in the first 5 words and again at the end of the article. You should also place the keywords plural and past tense somewhere in the article for added benefits if possible.
When doing your keyword research you should look at what is popular for the three leading search engines and not just what is popular on Google. This means look at what the people using Yahoo and Bing are looking for. These smaller search engines have a niche market in which you might have more success in cornering the market if you use it to your advantage.
The approach you take is all dependent on your target audience. If you limit yourself to just attracting the Google market, you have just forfeited over 30% of all the traffic on the internet. That is not a very wise business decision.
There are many constants with the basics for all SEO techniques no matter what search engine your target audiences use. The most important is quality original content along with links to relevant sites to help improve your exposure and the quality of your visitors surfing experience. Just remember to use the SEO basics then go after your target audience where ever they might be looking for you.
